If you haven’t heard about them yet, there are more then a few locations close to Iowa City where you can meet your archery and firearms needs, and none of them are more than an hour away. While this list might not be all-inclusive, it is a good start on helping you find a place nearby to shoot your bows and discharge your firearms:

Not only can you find your next bow, or service your old one at Fin & Feather, but with their indoor archery lanes you can also perfect your shoot. Archery Range rates are reasonable at $5/hour, and if you want some more feedback from your archery or shooting experience, you can opt for the interactive video archery/firearms Dart Target System which tracks each shot and simulates real life scenarios.


West Liberty Gun Club – Shooting and Archery RangeWest Liberty Archery Range

The West Liberty Gun Club consists of 40 acres of land situated on the southwest edge of West Liberty. Founded in 1956, the West Liberty Gun Club has continued to provide shooting facilities thanks to its strict attention to safety and shooting conduct within its member base. The West Liberty Gun Club offers a 100-yard outdoor range for handguns, .22 caliber rifles, muzzle loaders & shotgun shells; as well as a 50-yard outdoor range for conventional pistol matches, a trap range, archery range and much more.  


The Johnson County Archers – Archery RangeJohnson County Archers

The Johnson County Archers are a non-profit, membership-based group out of Johnson County that strives to “promote the challenge and protect the values of bowhunting” – and they do that through educational opportunities, ethical hunting and shooting practices, and promotion of good fellowship among all archers. Alongside all of that, they also incorporate a range which is open to the public outside of schedule events.



Hawkeye Wildlife Shooting Range – Shooting RangeHawkeye Wildlife Shooting Range

Located 2 miles north of North Liberty on Highway 965, the Hawkeye Wildlife Shooting Range is an Iowa DNR designated shooting range with no facility fees. With space for two rifle ranges and a handgun range, the Hawkeye Wildlife Shooting Range is a popular choice for the Iowa City denizen, so plan appropriately and consider the peak times when it could be busy.


Izaak Walton League

Izaak Walton League – Linn County Chapter – Shooting & Archery Range

The Izaak Walton League of America is a nationally recognized conservation and outdoor recreation advocates group with chapters and shooting ranges across the country, including in Cedar Rapids (Linn County). Currently, the Linn County Chapter has over 700 members who all have access to the long list of range types and 50+ acres of privately-owned land belonging to the Izaac Walton League – Linn County Chapter, and everyone can take part in the educational opportunities put on by the Izaak Walton League.
